LINEN SPOT: Lagenlook (Layered-Look) Style
The
styles shown below are
examples of "lagenlook." Lagenlook (German for "layered look") is all
about layering, and linen garments are born
for that! Linen's lovely drape along the curves of your body
are
smashing in layers. And you can layer your clothes without
making you
look bigger. Lagenlook, when done properly, is slimming
because it's
oh-so-great at hiding bulges and creating a feminine, flattering
silhouette. Plus, it shows a lot more creativity and
uniqueness than
standard fare.

The
lagenlook style originated in
Germany and has been very
fashionable in Europe for years. It's really an art form, like
art-to-wear. Finding pieces to layer that have asymmetrical
hemlines
add visual interest and express individuality too. You can
create looks
ranging from corporate to elegant to playful to bohemian chic to gypsy
- depending on the pieces, fabrics, cuts and colors you put
together.

To create a lagenlook style,
you'll want to
coordinate pieces
to layer, keeping in mind the hemline shapes and lengths of each piece.
Many lagenlook outfits are shown on the Fashion
Spotlight photo gallery in the Clothes
section to help you visualize this style concept. You can use
multiple pieces in the same color/fabric, contrasting
pieces, monochromatic pieces all in the same color family, or
solid pieces paired with a print accent piece. Diagonal and
asymmetrical hemlines are particularly fabulous for incorporating into
this style. Example
lagenlook ensembles can be made from layering the following
pieces:
- A top worn under/over
a
mid-length dress with bloomers underneath showing below the hemline of
the dress.
- A tank/cami worn under a
jacket with a skirt or pants on the bottom.
- A long tunic worn over a dress
or skirt with a jacket over the top and/or bloomers underneath the
skirt.
- A cropped jacket or top worn
over a longer top/tunic with pants or a skirt on the bottom.
- A sleeved top worn under/over
a
sleeveless dress with a secondary skirt or pants underneath the dress.
