Some linen garments recommend using dry cleaning only, some are hand wash and air dry, but I gravitate towards the machine-wash-and-dry kind because I prefer less hassle and expense when caring for my clothes.  I also firmly believe that ironing linen apparel is not required - completely optional.

I think that linen creases/wrinkles more when it's ironed, so I avoid ironing altogether.  Plus, ironing to create sharp edges and folds can break the linen fibers and damage the fabric.  Handheld steamers or a good steam dryer can offer a quick touch-up to remove wrinkles on linen clothes that have been crammed in your closet or need a quick refresh.  I use Downy's "Wrinkle Releaser" spray before tossing my linen clothes into the dryer and it removes wrinkles even better.
