(Layered) Style
ECO-FRIENDLY FASHIONS:
Spot On Style is a strong advocate of
natural fiber clothing (eco-friendly clothes or "green clothing"),
especially lagenlook style (layered-look) outfits made out of pure flax linen fabric. I
advocate wearing natural fabrics, such as pure flax linen, silk,
wool, cotton, and ramie (also like silk velvet, cashmere, modal, and
rayon), for health-conscious reasons with their health benefits, as well as their shelf life longevity, drape, texture, luster, and also their obvious environmental benefits. *READ MORE*
WHY I
LOVE LINEN:
Linen
fabric is not only extremely comfortable to wear, it's not clingy at
all so it hides figure flaws and bulges beautifully. It's flowy
and feminine, it breathes very well, it has a long life with proper care, it comes in a variety of linen weights for 3-4 season wear, and surrounding the human body in it is known to have significant health benefits. *READ MORE*
ABOUT LINEN
FABRIC:
Linen is a natural fiber, high luster textile,
woven out of
fibers from the flax plant, Linum usitatissimum. It's labor-intensive
and time-consuming to manufacture, therefore it's more expensive than
cotton or other common apparel fabrics, but it's well worth it! *READ MORE*
HEALTH BENEFITS
OF WEARING LINEN:
Linen has been scientifically proven to have
healing
properties. For example, linen is exclusively used in operating rooms
and it is the only natural material utilized for internal sutures in a
surgical setting. When wearing 100% linen, many individuals have
testified that their healing was rapid. Post injury or surgical pain
was substantially reduced (without the use of prescription or over the
counter drugs) when using linen bandages and wearing linen clothing. *READ MORE*
LINEN CARE:
Some linen garments recommend using dry cleaning
only, some are
hand wash and air dry, but I gravitate towards the machine-wash-and-dry
kind because I prefer less hassle and expense when caring for my
clothes. I also firmly believe that ironing linen apparel is not
required - completely optional. *READ MORE*
LINEN WEIGHTS:
Linen
comes in a variety of thicknesses, known as "weights."
There's hanky weight (like Irish linen), which is a very fine texture,
it's the softest and lightest, and it's slightly sheer when held up
against the light. This weight is ideal for hot Texas summers, but also
seems to have the most "give" so it tends to stretch out a little bit. *READ MORE*
LAGENLOOK STYLE:
The
styles shown below are
examples of "lagenlook." Lagenlook (German for "layered look") is all
about layering, and linen garments are born
for that! Linen's lovely drape along the curves of your body are
smashing in layers. And you can layer your clothes without making you
look bigger. Lagenlook, when done properly, is slimming because it's
oh-so-great at hiding bulges and creating a feminine, flattering
silhouette. Plus, it shows a lot more creativity and uniqueness than
standard fare.
